Welcome to the domaine Ch\u00e2teau Camponac<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Located about 30km from Bordeaux and 1.5km from the village of Bourg, Ch\u00e2teau Camponac welcomes you to a hilly setting amidst vines, the oldest of which date back to 1959.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The estate comprises 8.5 ha of vineyards, meadows, a main building, a guest house and outbuildings. We make our own wine on the estate. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

To diversify our production, in the coming years we will continue to plant new resistant grape varieties, such as Souvignier gris, to limit the need for treatments.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The terroir<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The estate is composed of three very different sub-soils.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our Cabernet Sauvignon vines are planted on clay-limestone soil, with deep sandstone limestone dating back to the Ecocene ( ~ 50 million years ago ), a period of intense global warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Merlot and Cabernet Franc vines are planted on much younger Quaternary soil ( ~ 2 million years ). The soil is composed of colluvium, the origin of which is the erosion glacis. The soil is mainly silty clay, a late terroir. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Finally, located at the top of rolling hillsides, Malbecs and Merlots are planted in quartzite gravels from a fluvial or delta formation, giving a rather precocious terroir.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

The estate dates back to the 19th century, the first traces of which date back to the 1893 version of Le Feret, where the estate was well established and classified as a Cru Bourgeois at the time, a classification that has since been banned. The main buildings are identical to today’s, at least as far as the facade is concerned. If we refer to the trees in the photo, and in particular the magnolia on the right, which appears to be over 50 years old, we can safely estimate that the house dates back to the 1850s.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
